Hey Y'All,> >
Another fun night at the Chicago Theatre. A very different atmosphere and mood walking in. As I mentioned yesterday, the security (bastards) at the venue cast a shadow on us the first evening. Their militant and unbending behavior was very evident as they would not let us bring backpacks into the show. Addding insult to injury, they even charged $2.00 when they made us check in our bags after the emptying process. I spoke to Buck Williams, Chris, and Sam after this ordeal. They were very understanding and must have spoken to the management. When we arrived for night II, everything was cool. The only one that had to check a bag was Nate, as Kate had her luggage coming in from the airport! What a difference a day makes, other than the Cubbies blowing a 3-2 lead in their home opener in the top of the ninth (sorry Trace and Hubie). With us freaks along with JB going to Saturday's game, that should all change.> > We stopped by the Hard Rock to visit Myndie and Charles before the show. Why isn't Chris and Carrington here for the shows? We headed over to the theatre just before doors. I was able to get a few extras to help out some folks. Tonight we set up in JJ, or 14th row. Wookie scored seatrs in the pit and pulled a tape from there. We had a mini-Schoeps tree duck taped to the third seat in. As I always mention, it is not just the music that makes these shows, it's the people you see and hang with! We had quite the "family affair" going. In the 3 rows around our tree, we had Charles, Myndie, Nate and Kate, Hubie, Frank, Mike and Jen, Jeff, Fred, Smiley, and several others for the whole show. We made a new friend as well, Michael Saba. He was there doing some photos for An Honest Tune. He did get a couple shots of our little community, so look out, we may be back to haunt you. Also during the day, WXRT treated us to an airing of JB and George playing acoustic at a place in town. They played Travelin' Light, Doreatha, and Blue Indian. The interchange with the DJ was priceless. JB mentioned he was going to do a Little Dittie, the National Anthem, at the Cubs game tomorrow. Yes, we taped it. Jeff will probably seed it today and you should get it, as it is entertaining. > > Down to brass tacks. The first set was as good as you would want to see. They smoked right out of the gate and never looked back! The Pleas>Parsons whipped us into a frenzy. Lots of nuggets that I never expected such as a Gradle, JKMB complete with a Night People rap, and a sweet Stop/Go. Wow! Lots of funk in the JKMB! They barely cracked the 1 hour barrier, but as I have said in the past, it's the quality, not the quantity.Nate came empty-handed, so many fans were expecting blown-up instruments. The pressure is on for him to find a novelty store in the windy city today to help satiate some of the folks!> > I heard some people bitchin' about the set selections of the second set. Now, 9 hours later as I look at it, maybe it seemed on the light side, but when I walked out of there, I was totally satisfied and still am. The playing was on fire! They have changed the sound of some of the songs. Nice changes. They opened up the set with the longest drum solo for me to date, a bit over 6 minutes that slid nicely into Rock. One of the climatic moments occured next as they launched into Rebirtha. The jam coming out of the song was HUGE! It also extended the song to over 16 minutes. JB was playin' some nice slide parts and George was all over everything he played. Some nut jumped up on stage only to be shown the door. The boys were all laughing as he got up there. The only weak link was possibly the Nobody's Loss. But Mr. Soul pulled that out. Hopefully Neil is doing well these days.

After the show, Fred invited us to a private party of Whirley Ball. Only thing is, he never showed! We left there at about 1:00 am. Where are you Fred? Back to Jeff's for me, Ernest T, Teresa, Paul, Pap Joe and Jeff. I certainly hope Wrigley is ready for us Freaks today! I believe Greg Maddox will lead the way to victory! Happy birthday to my buddy BC! Wish you and Leslie were here!> > Late,> Z-Man
