Buckethead Detroit

> I received the text message on Monday afternoon from Nate, that he and Kate were now the proud parents of a 7 pound, 15 ounce, baby boy! I had tonight marked on my calendar to go to the Motor City and see Buckethead. As a celebration for the Fisher family, I had to go! I spoke to Matt and Tom in Detroit, but they were not taking me up, so, I was on my own. My first mistake of the night, was stopping at the Moptor City Casino. I usually stop after a show to try and recoup my ticket expendature for a show. I usually do not fare well at this casino, and tonight was no different. My first hand, I drew a 4 on a 16. The dealer pushes me with a 20, I then lose 6 straight on a $15.00 table. Very ugly. After losing a bit more, I had to leave, pissed off at myself of course. I arrived at the magic Stick, pulled a u-turn on Woodward, and parked directly in front of the front door. Things were looking up! Long line getting in as Freakbass was about to start. I was amazed at how crowded the joint was already! I set up FOB near the rail by the tables. I recorded Freakbass and scoped out the place. I was not only on my own, but something very weird happened. I went to a show in this country, and did not know a single soul! I made quick friends with Kelly and Danny. Lots of Megadeath, Metallica, and Iron Maiden t-shirts in this crowd.

> My first Freakbass show, so the titles are probably not right. They did cover a Fame. It was "different". After a 38 minute set, the crew came put and set up for Buckethead. I have no idea why it took 1 hour and 11 minutes. The natives were getting restless.

> Finally, Buckethead took the stage to all the fanfare.As I told Kelly, when you walk out of here, you will remember tonight for a long time! If you have never seen him, he comes out in a mask and a KFC bucket on his head. I have heard from Chris C. that he hails from Marietta, Georgia. Hell, he might even be my neighbor for all I know. I loved when the drummer did his Carl from Slingblade immitation! The set lasted about an hour. After a nine minute setbreak, it was back to business. The second set was also about an hour long. The encore lasted about 17 minutes. All this for only $15.00. The guy CAN play guitar. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. As I was the only taper there, I became very popular between sets, during sets, and after the show. I was amazed how many people wanted a copy of the show. I listened to a bit of the recording, and it does sound very good! Tracking this son of a bitch is gonna be hell! I dedicated the recording to Nate Jr.!

> Time to get out of this smoky venue. I felt like I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes tonight! I then headed south on I-75. I needed to drive the hour plus and go to bed. I was still burning over the loss at the blackjack table. I could only think of what Cousin Eddie said in Las Vegas Vacation after Clark Griswald got cleaned out, "I haven't seen a beating like that since I put a banana down my pants and they turned the monkey loose"! I found my way over to the MGM for round II. I was taking it in the shorts again! I dropped a quick C note. I started to rally and cashed in $280.00 about an hour and a half later, leaving me down only about $40.00. I felt vindicated. This was my first loss in the last 5-6 Detroit shows I have seen. I am still up so it was not a total loss. Getting in at 5:30 for a 2 1/2 hour nap was a bit rough today though!
