Widespread Panic Raleigh 4/21/2006

> Hey Y'All,
>
> After the great Mule show, Jim and I stopped at the Sheraton to get a quick listen to our recording. We said goodnight and headed over to the Ochs Hotel. Listened to our sources on her stereo. Leftover Chinese eaten right out of the fridge coitainly hit the spot. Looked at several photo albums with Melissa and Pepper. Jim and I wandered over to the Fraley Arms our hotel for the night. The Raleigh crew definitely made us very welcome!
>
> Jim had a 2 hour conference call, and I was on the phone with work for about the same. Bojangles variety of biscuits for breakfast. Jim and I headed over for some pulled Pork BBQ near the venue. Everyone found it hard to believe that I have never been to this venue. I guess after all these years I am surprised I haven't been there myself. We all met out in the lot. We had VIP parking and would need it to escape the lot so we could get to the Outformation show on time. Everyone was very excited for the first show of 2006. My ticket was 2nd row of section 2, wow. I moved back to about the 11th row and Charles, Jim, Dave, Joe, Brien, Martin, Carrington, and I set up shop. We saw the pedal steel on stage left, so we knew John Keene would be joining the boys. Talk about coming out of the gate taking no prisoners, Provin'>Chilly>Provin'! Classic old school Panic! Next another favorite, C. Brown. This one was a very, very, low keyed intro. Porch led into one of the night's highlights, Drivin'>TYS>Drivin'! Pinch me, is this still the first set? The Time Waits, halted the killer momentum of the set. It wasn't bad, but after what we got, eh. I believe this was only played once in the past. I had called an ALG set closer. JB picked up the Mando, but, technical problems. They still played the ALG anyway. But to our surprise, they were not done. An uninspired Don't Wanna Lose My Buzz was up next. Maybe it is just my biased opinion as I really do not like this one. They closed out with an almost 12 minute Chainsaw! Now that hit the spot! This and North are my 2 favorite Jerry songs. A well deserved 36 minute break ensued. I enjoyed Keene playing both Guitar and Pedal Steel.
>
> A Second Skin opener to rock us. They missed the boat here, as John Keene should have been up there on his pedal steel to lend an even more sinister sound to this one! The Low Rider featured a very clean sounding George on guitar. He sounded much cleaner this set. Love Tractor found itself nested in a peculiar spot at #3, rockin' as always. I thought they lost momentum with the Tortured Audience. Drums led into a good jam kind of Blue Skyesque with John and George trading leads. There were some weird placements of songs in the second set, as well as song selection period. Dave pounded his bass for the Solid Rock! The set had it's moments, but was a bit choppy. Most everyone complained about the encore. Played well, but questionable selections. Two Jerry Joseph songs tonight. The taping went very smoothly, no problems. Chris had his hands full with the new sound system. It could have been a bit louder, but he will nail it with a little more time mastering the V-Dos. Great hangin' with the Charles and Mindy, Jim, Carrington, Craig and Kucy, Martin, Brien, Joe W., Chip, Sara, Nick, Robbie, Bill and Kitty, Heather, Jayson, Causey, Frank and Kristin, Flynn and Heidi, Ray and Shelley, Pepper, Melissa, Lara, Tim and Stacey, Barry the Blade, Ashley B., Marcus, Tito, Innis, Dave and Karen, Jono, Rob and the Houston crew, and the rest of the freaks! Time to pack up and fly to the Outformation show at the Pour House!
