Dave Matthews Band Columbus 6-7-2005

Dave Matthews Band Columbus 6-7-2005

> Hey Y'All,
>
> Time to welcome Freddie and Pete to the Z-Man Chronicles! Here at the Fisher Arms in Columbus. My gracious hosts are N8 and K8! Jeff T., Fred, and Pete picked me up at Nate's around 5:00 and we headed north on I-71 to the Germain Ampitheatre. We had excellent tickets and set up in the 8th row. Robert Randolph treated us to an entertaining 45 minute set. Nice versions of Gonna Have a Good Time, Love, and Purple Haze. Robert invited a couple of Jebronis from the crowd to play guitar for a brief shining moment. Nothing worth watching. It is fun watching everyone in the band switch off instruments as Robert plays everything during one song. I must say he has a great stage presence! I always enjoy watching him work the crowd.

> After a 54 minute swithout, Dave took the stage at about 8:36. He opened with Everyday. It got pretty slow after that. They played a bunch of their new cd, and most of it is very slow. The momentum just wasn't there. It picked up for a nice Too Much and a nice long Bartender. Butch got to stretch out for a very nice solo. It was probably the longest I've ever seen him play. Glad he is getting the room to manuever. The new toon Stand Up, kind of reminds me of NMAS "Eyes". Things were looking up as Robert Randolph joined the frey. He pumped up the new Louisiana Bayou. He left the stage to return 2 songs later. He should have stayed to keep it rolling! He did come back for a set closing Watchtower, my call. The encore was also very nice, Smooth Rider, followed by a 19:51 Two Step! Again, Butch was given a nice solo. The last hour of the show was much better than the first 1 1/2 hours. Not one of the better Dave shows I have ever seen. Actually, one of the weakest. Only 5 taping rigs tonight. The taping and security was very cool, but that would change drastically 24 hours later! Here is how it went down:
