Dave Matthews Band Columbus 6-8-2005

Dave Matthews Band Columbus 6-8-2005

> Hey Y'All,
>
> Night two of DMB. Tonight was a stark difference in many/all ways. You can't tailgate at Polaris anymore. The State Police brought in an RV for processing arrests. Several undercover police. We witnessed 2 young girls and 1 guy getting cuffed and hauled off for underage drinking. Our Beer was poured in either Wendy's or Griner's cups! The thunder showers arrived shortly after we reached the lot. It rained for about an hour, most of Robert's set. I did not mention, but my old friend from back in the LOS days, Steve, is now working as a Manager for Robert. Way to go Steve! Congrats to you and Marci on the upcoming baby as well! Jeff, Pete, Freddie, and I got settled in the lower center section for Robert. A security manager approached us as we were setting up asking to keep the mics low. We were told we could raise them if no one complains. At Dave shows, they are usually run 12-18 feet up to avoid all the screaming. We just felt trouble, so after Robert's set, I found a couple on the right side to trade with as we would hit the stacks. As soon as Dave hit the stage, a #@!*^(%^$ security manager started yelling at us to bring 'em down because 4,000 people were complaining. What a crock of $%^#@*! We brought them down to 8 feet. Three songs later, he was back in our face. Now we were down to head level. Security was hasseling folks all night. Pete got bounced from behind us after spending about 2 hours of Dave's set there because his ticket was a few rows back. They were throwing people out of empty seats if they did not have those tickets. Very ugly scene. Only 2 rigs tonight, ours, and Mike's. He concurred with us on the hassels of security. He has taped Dave the past 7 years there, and never has it been like it was tonight.

> Tonight's show was much better. Robert put in a solid 41 minutes. He threw us a nice Voodoo Chile, Beverly Hills Cop Theme, and Stomp Your Feet. Again, he had Chad? from the crowd play a few riffs. The band also switched around on instruments tonight. Robert played everything except Jason's Keyboards tonight.

> Dave hit the stage at about 8:25. Lots of good old standards! So Much to Say and #41 right out of the gate. There were 6 repeats, but not the real slow songs. A 25 minute Seek Up, smoked! Robert joined the band for the last 2 songs. The second was a repeat from when he sat in last night, Lousiana Bayou. All in all, the set selections were much better tonight. The energy and flow was much smoother, we weren't bogged down by too much slow stuff. Good seeing Jeff, Pete, Freddie, Mike, Dr. Will, and James from Mobile! It was too bad about the 180 degree change by security's attitude tonight. I will not be in a hurry to go back to Polaris in Columbus again! Here is how it went down:
