The Doors Columbus 6-15-2005

The Doors Columbus 6-15-2005

> > After a long meeting with 2 of my clients, I headed down 75 South from Toledo to Dayton at about 3:35. A funny thing happened, I spoke to Nate. He had a bunch of free pavilion tix for the Strange Days Fest in Columbus. Hmm, should I drive to Dayton and get a decent night's rest, or head to Columbus, see the show, crash at Nate's, and get up early and drive to Dayton? I met Nate, grabbed my ticket and headed to Polaris. The crowd going in was very sparse. I studied the security guards to determine whicjh one to go through. I picked a blonde woman and no sweat! I went to our section and scammed to the middle. I could not get in the lower section so settled just above the VIP seats, right center. I caught the last song of the Yardbirds, I'm a Man. I did not recognize anyone in the band.

> > Next up was the Vanilla Fudge. They played an interesting combo cover of a Curtis Mayfield > Zombies, very interesting. Next up was Steppenwolf. The Fudge and the Wolf both played their big hits as expected. The Wolf ended with Carpet Ride>Born to be Wild as you might have imagined. BTW BC, I was not the oldest one in the crowd by any stretch of the imagination! Nate finally arrived as my double aa's were spent. Afteer reloading, we headed back to the seats I grabbed.

> > The Doors came on and played a short set. They were better than I expected, Krieger still has some licks left and Ray did a great job on the ivories. Ian portrayed Morrison and looked the part but did not carry the band like Jim. They extended the songs a lot more than I expected. I would have enjoyed a few more. The crowd was loud and into it. I only knew 2 people at the show. By the end of the show, I would say there were only about 5,500 people there. Here is how it went down:
