Widespread Panic Atlanta 5/8/2006

> Hey Y'All,

> The day had finally arrived. Chris, Tim, Zee, and I headed downtown to pick up our tix at the Fox around 1:00. We were hoping we could grab tix for both nights to eliminate going thru the motions twice in two days. Sure enough, the email Holly sent was correct and we were able to grab all of our tickets. Chris, Tim, and I were in and out of the Fox in less than 7 minutes! Being in the "Z" line, has it's privelidges! Back home to hang, eat, drink, etc., prior to heading down for the show. Got to the Georgian Terrace and hung in room 306. I was able to find Chard a ducat for the show. Been seeing shows with him since the mid-nineties and needed to hook him up! We ended up setting up on the floor, where my tickets were, row N. As the lights dimmed, everyone was feeling the excitement. The Panic at the Fox, again! They opened with a crowd favorite, Contentment Blues. It was a bit rough for the opening 90 seconds. One of my highlights was the Disco>Wrangler combo, very tasty indeed. Nice having John Keane lend a hand, or shall i say a guitar. That Thang was not as good as the versions from last fall. A slower format during the jam. Another highlight was the Goin' Out West. Great job on this one. Junco was very ragged in the beginning also. When Jojo was tickling the ivories, Charles and I were thinkin' about an Early. That song I miss as much as any! Jojo had us thinkin'; that maybe, just maybe.... They started playing X-Mas Katie as we were hoping for a Dirty Biz, at least I was. Katie still rocks after the second verse with a ton of energy! Randall Bramblett was in the house to add a bit of pizzaz on on the last two tunes. I thought the beginning of Thousage was a bit choppy as well. A good set with a touch of uncertainty. Of course with the spring tour consisting of only 4 shows, we would not get mid-tour form. That is the problem with a 4 show tour.

> After a 42 minute intermission, game on! They kicked off set two David Byrne style with a Life During Wartime. Have enjoyed this one since it's debut at the Garden in 2003! It led smoothly into my favorite or tied for favorite Jerry Joseph cover of North. Randall came back out for a sweet Mercy. Then, the wheels came off for me. I have never been a very big fan of Nebulous or Monstroshitty. But to get both in a show, worse, back to back split by a mini-drums, not the high point of the night for me. I heard many folks groan about getting Casa along with these. I actually have always enjoyed Casa since it's debut in 2000. I still think of that magic Sunday afternoon at the Greek in 2001, with Carlos playing a very healthy lead on that version. Remember that day Charles, FOB! Great hearing the I'm Not Alone. With Lopez stepping up to bat in Sonny's Egis, we knew the Slippin' was on the way! The Parsons was very well received by the Georgia faithful. Where was karen to point a finger at? Strange how Keane joined the boys half-way through this one. We figured we would get another tune with him joining so late on this one. Boy did we, a 12 minute Bowlegged. Very strong finish, but much more to come. They opened the encore with a Little Lilly that had Dave stepping up with some loud vocals at the end. This led straight into a Papa's, a sweet placement for sure. I thought I heard Rock coming twice during the show earlier. I was wearing my Rock on a Belly t-shirt and next thing you know, Sonny had us on the way! They finished with the reprise of Papa's and it was a night!

> A night of fun at the Fabulous Fox! A Happy Birthday tonight to a couple of special friends, Stacey and Tracy! I won't tell everyone how each of you has reached a new decade, oops! Great hangin' with everyone at the show, ane you know who you are. Can't even begin to list em all. Finally get to see Stacey and Paul, Haney and Jayne at a show! . Over to the Georgian Terrace for a few nightcaps and back home with our guests.
