Allman Brothers Band Cleveland 6/21/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> Again, I apologize for the delay here. A very busy work week as one of my
managers was on vacation and I had to fill in for lots of catering this week.
Good to keep your cheffing skills sharp. Levi had called me 2 months ago as he
got Jeff and I ticketsd in the 7th row. Couldn't pass this show up. My last show
was also an ABB show 6 days prior. Two shows of ABB in a row, how nice. I left
work around 4:00 and headed east to Cleveland. I was hoping to go with Tim, but
he was running behind. Traffic was not bad. I settled for a stuffed pizza at
Sbarro's on the Ohio Turnpike. Got to the lot at about 6:00. The skies were
pretty much sunny, no idea what we were to experience in the next few hours. I
met Jeff and Levi, and we entered the Plain Dealer Pavilion. Most of you will
remember the venue as Nautica, several Panic shows ago. It changed to the Scene
Pavilion 2 years ago, and now the new name. About 2 years ago, they put a huge
circus style tent over the venue. Thank Goodness! My first show hear with
reserved seats. We went to the seats and found out we were not DFC, and very
close considering the stacks were out from the stage. We looked to trade, but
very few people inside at this point. We got lucky and traded 3 people in the
center about 10 rows back. They had an extra ticket, so we traded our 3 for
their 4! Such a deal.
>
> We set up and began to tape the Derek Trucks Band. Not many folks here yet.
Derek again sounded very tight. Mike belted out a nice Soul Stew. The For My
Brother, Favorite Things, and Sail On were also very strong. Tonight's set was
longer than last week, stretching out over an hour.
>
> Good seeing a couple of the Pittsburgh tapers here, Jamie and Steve. Taper
Scott was also in the house as was Jesse, who ran up in the first few rows with
his 414's. The Brothers took the stage after a 34 minute changeover. The classic
Don't Want You No More>Ain't My Cross to Bear kicked off the evening. Several
large boats drifted behind the stage on the river. Another Rockin' Horse, not as
good as Cincy. As the song segued into Good Clean Fun, mother natures light show
began! I've seen lightning, and I've seen lightning. But I can't remember seeing
lightning like this. Every 2 seconds, the sky was lit up, and I mean every
couple of seconds! This was to last for the next hour and 15 minutes. It poured
as well, non-stop. It was blowing so hard, we were feeling mist all the way in
the middle of the tent! The next song, the surprise of the night for me, was The
Sky is Crying! Never heard them do this one before. How appropriate! We were
amazed that the band never stopped with the lightning going on.
>
> Another Midnight Rider. My next treat was a version of the Weight. My only
complaint here was I thought they could have done a bit of harmony on the
chorus. I have been seeing these guys for 33 years and tonight I hear 2 songs I
have never seen them do before! That blows me away. The rest of the show was
money with a Statesboro>Mountain Jam! A No One Left to Run With, and the show
was over. We walked very swiftly through the easing rain. I stopped at Subway
for a sandwich and hit the turnpike. Once I got on the Ohio Turnpike, the
lightning and rain got very intense! It couldn't rain any harder for the next 80
minutes! The lightning had the night seem like daytime! I saw lightning touch
down in a field next to me.Needless to say, the ride back sucked. In at about
2:15, very stressful. No speeding as I went about 45 MPH the whole way.
