Gov't Mule Pittsburgh 6/8/2006

> Hey Y'All,
>
> Sorry for the delay again, life on the road will do that to ya. After waking up after last night's show, we got it together to head east on I-70 to Pittsburgh. Day 2 of my adventures with Zee! We grabbed a bite to eat along the way at Ruby Tuesday's. I opted for a healthy choice of the Salad Bar. Two big platefuls of greens, salds, and other delights. A bit of ruffage is always good for you. A lot of ruffage, and Zee would suffer along on the ride! We arrived in downtown Pittsburgh thanks to the On-Star help from Tim on the phone! We saw a bunch of tents, so we parked in the garage a couple of blocks away. We wondered until we finally found the stage. It was right by one of the bridges that spanned the 3 rivers. What a beautiful area to hold the show! The fountains and green grass surrounding us would make you feel like you weren't even close to being downtown. There was a band finishing up there set for about 20 minutes. The taping section was right in front of the board. It sounded pretty good there, but......it sure would be better up close. The area was in front had folding chairs the festival provided along with lawn chairs folks brought from home. I found a chair and put in DFC next to some other folks as they were cool about it. Zee saw me up there and joined me. The thing about a free concert is, well, you get lots of local folks that are there to get drunk and raise hell. There was a mix of Mule Fans, along with this element. That is part of the adventure of taping up front.

> I stopped over at the sound board to exchange pleasantries with Slim as he was getting ready to run sound. I ran into Thomas Ott, who I taped with in the rainstorm at the Mule show in Toledo in 1999. First time seeing him in 7 years. Dan the Man who lives here came out to tape as well. His first question was, where is Nate? I asked him where the hell is Alex? A show in his hometown and he is absent! He is in Savannah for the summer. It was fun without you bro, next time.

> The Mule hit the stage to the delight of a very raucous crowd! A mellow Hammer and Nails opener. Just as they began, we received a smattering of rain. The rain only lasted about 10 minutes thank goodness. The Thorazine got everyone pumped. The upbeat 32-20 Blues contained a couple of teases, I'm a Loser, and Midnight Rider. Then the back and forth ballad of Doves Cry>Beautifully Broken. My first one in a long time. This segued smoothly into a Sco-mule. My first Maybe I'm Amazed sounded great, as I have wanted to hear this for some time. The Rockin' Horse>Time to Confess was right on the money! The 1 hour and 45 minute set ended with a rockin' Bad Little Doggie>Livin' Lovin'>Blindman. We awaited the expected Soulshine, but to our surprise we got a Mule>I've Been Workin'>Mule instead. The, we got a Soulshine. A nice long encore left us feeling we definitely got our moneysworth. Oh, wait a minute, it was a free show! My friend Rick who drives for the band, got a hold of Lopez who was doing triple duty, working on the road with now 3 bands! We met up and chatted for a bit. I told him we would see him tomorrow night.

> What would be a great show without some superior eats. We hit the local flavor at a couple of the tents. That would serve as an appetizer, as Zee needed to check out Primanti Bros! We ordered the huge sandwich with plenty of Cappicola, Cheese, and fries that have made this joint a local institution!

> As we left the garage and headed onto the expressway, we ended up sitting for at least 20 minutes as I-279 was backed up due to night time construction. This sucked! We got back to the hotel, and crashed as we watched the next installment of the Deadliest Catch on Discovery.
