Donna the Buffalo Charleston 8/18/2006

> >
> > Hey Y'All,
> >
> > After a long week of work, actually it is still going, I decided I needed
some therapy. The only thing in the 2 hour range that I was interested in was
Donna the Buffalo. The only problem, I had to go out of the country, to West
Virginia AGAIN! A scary thought but I made up my mind. As soon as I crossed the
Ohio River into exile, I past a trailer park, I had arrived! The sign on the
bridge stated West Virginia, "Open for Business". I checked out of my room in
the early afternoon as I did not want to screw around with trying to escape West
Virginia late at night after the show. I left work around 6:00 and headed down
route 33. I got a room in Charleston. The exit of my hotel was on McCorkle Ave.
George McCorkle was one of the original members of the Marshall Tucker Band.
File that fact for later. I packed my gear, and left for the show at about 8:45.
I called to get directions so I would not take a "wrong turn". The 10 minute
ride was now 25 minutes and yes, I was in the "hood". I called the venue and
tried to get there with some more "help". I finally found the place and
attempted to enter with my gear. I was greeted at the door with "you can't bring
that #### in here". I explained that I have been seeing this band since the
early 90's and they are cool about taping. He said no way. After a couple of
minutes going back and forth, I asked him to check with Tara of Donna the
Buffalo. He went in an a couple of minutes later allowed me in.
> >
> > The opening band was Tastes Like Chicken and I was wearing my Chicken Tastes
Good Panic shirt Ray gave me. I began to set up as they were about to begin
their set. I was DFC 12 feet from stage. My "friend" gets in my face and tells
me if I want to tape to go to the back or all the way to the side, or I can
leave. Wow. With him was one of his bouncers, 6'5" 300 pounds. All 4 bouncers
were that big, very scary. I opted to move towards the side and set up. He came
back and moved me even farther to the side. I ran the TLC set. They opened with
This Ol' Cowboy, a Marshall Tucker Song. They played a set of all covers, mostly
southern rock. The crowd loved it. By then, surprisingly, the place was packed!
> >
> > DTB came on a bit after 11:00. Positive Friction was a nice choice for
openers. I particularly enjoyed the Family Picture. Tara and Jeb were laughing
near the end as they seem to flub a verse. There were a few new ones that I did
not recognize. I did groove on the West Virginia Rastafari. Not a common one in
my experiences. No Place like the Right Time hit home, as the crowd ate it up.
The band was asking the soundman to adjust monitors most of the night. As for
the sound itself, I thought it was only fair. Especially after listening to the
recording. The Blue Skies and Ring of Fire were nice to hear. To end the set, we
got an extended version of Conscious evolution followed by Tides of Time. I have
seen these 2 back to back on many occasions. They came back for the double
encore of Mr. King and Rock of Ages.
> >
> > During the show, I was watching the bottom line of ESPN keeping up with the
Yankee/Red Sox game. They slaughtered the Sox during the day, and much to my
satisfaction, they came back in the nightcap for the sweep. Not to mention the
drubbing yesterday. Yes, the Boston Massacre continues. I shall watch tonight on
ESPN at 8:00 p.m.! Sorry Mark, but I must mention this. Mark told me that for
his 50th birthday on Friday, he came downstairs and Laurie had gotten him a new
flat screen tv! Mark is a huge Red Sox fan. I must say, what a way to break in
your new tv as the Sox got swept!!!!
> >
> > My second venture either in or near West Virginia in the past 2 weeks, and I
knew not a soul. I did make new friends with David, the percussionist for TLC. I
will be furnishing him with a copy of their set. Thanks for the Newcastles! This
country, West Virginia is just too weird. i was approached by a guy close to my
age. He asked if we could set up a trade. I told him B & P would work as I
stopped trading a while back. He gave me a blank stare. I asked for his email
addy. He didn't have one. He gave me his card. He has a business he runs,
Cassette Repair. I told him if I copy the show, it won't be on cassette but on
CD. Only in West Virginia! Post show eats at 3:00 am found me at the IHOP by the
hotel for Funnell Cakes with Strawberry topping, Bacon, Sausage, Hash Browns,
and 2 eggs over easy. Here is how it went down:

Commander Cody Band Chillicothe, Ohio 8/25/2006

> >
> > Hey Y'All,
> >
> > Talk about a long delay! Been very busy and many reviews behind. I am alive
but super busy. Many emails from several of you thinking I dropped you off my
list or I stopped going to shows. Not the case.
> >
> > It's was a loonnngggg week here in Athens. A very busy day at work as I had
several deliveries of both food and equipment arrive. We set up our main storage
area. By 5:30, I let my employees punch out and go home. I left work at about
6:20, grabbed my gear, and headed down I-50 West towards Chillicothe. I was
pretty hungry, but not enough time to stop. I saw a small roadside eatery called
the Main Eatery in . My eye caught "fresh walleye" on the menu board. I hit
the brakes and made a u-turn. I ordered the Walleye Sandwich with homegrown
fresh sliced tomato, and some fried green tomatoes. Only $5.00! I got it to go.
It lasted about 15 minutes down the road. What a find!!!! The road, route 50, is
a very winding 2 lane road.I did see a sign for Tampa, Fla. 1134 miles. Why it
was in the middle of nowhere was beyond me. I even saw a GULF gas station, first
one in many moons. I went through towns like Tar Hollow and Ratliffburg. I did
see a 24 hour donut shop that might come into play later after the show. I
arrived at about 7:30. It was set up downtown Chilicothe, right in the middle of
the street in front of the old Majestic Theatre. I was hoping it would be inside
as I would love to see the inside of that old place! It was built in 1853 and
only seats 500!
> >
> > There were bales of hay lined up in rows in the street. The stage itself was
a long bed dump truck. There were stacks of speakers on each side. I set up as
the opener, Mike Tackett and Bob Redwine, was already playing. My mic stand
literally stradled the center line on 2nd street about 18 feet from the stage. I
started my 722 and went over to talk with Mark Emerick of Cody's band. The crowd
was thin as it was Friday night in small town , Ohio, and that meant high school
football was center stage. The duet did a few decent covers such as Skynyrd's
Curtis Lowe, and Billy Joe Shaver's I'm Gonna Lie Forever, and People and Their
Problems.
> >
> > I went into the RV and there was my buddy George! We drank a few Heinekens
and traded stories. Never a dull moment with George! Rick, his bass player was
away, I think in Europe. Tonight was a treat as Tiny Olson was sitting in on
pedal steel! I've seen him sit in before when I saw the boys in NY a couple
years back. We went out by the stage as Goodbye Rose came on after a quick, 10
minute change out. They were a country rock band with a great sounding pedal
steel. I mentioned this to Tiny and he then informed me that the steel player
was the one and only John David Hall! Wow, seen him in the 70's with Pure
Prairie League. Oh the memories. A few solid originals. A nice Graham Parsons
cover of Devil in Disguise. Also a cover of Haggers's It's Not Love.
> >
> > On to the main attraction. Psyched for some pedal steel! The opening duo of
Too Much Fun>Riot in Cell Block #9 was a good way to get rolling. Smoke Smoke
Smoke was next. Many of the usual favorites. George's voice got a break as Mark
did 2, followed by Steve singing 2. I really liked the River City Mark gave us.
Everyone was ready for Hot Rod Lincoln and Seeds and Stems. After Lost in the
Ozone, the boys ambled out for Rockin' over China. A quick goodnight and a hard
drive back to Athens. Now the winding road was accompanied by the 3 things we
all hate, darkness, fog, and deer! It was a nice break from the reality of work.
> >

town. The promoter was also very friendly and gave me a laminate for the night.

Widespread Panic Indianapolis 8/8/2006

> >
> > Hey Y'All,
> >
> > Sorry for the delay, work is kickin' my ass! After the great 2 night run in
Louisville, I'd be lying if I told you I was not considering Indy. I am in
Athens, Ohio, a good 4 1/2 hours from Indy. I would have to say, the email from
"Oak" waving a VIP ticket under my nose got the train wheels rolling. I knew
Nate, Dr. Will, and Pete were going from Columbus, 90 minutes northwest, and on
the way to Indy. Too many stars aligning to turn it down. my only fear was
traveling with Nate and company, as they tend to walk in as the lights are
dimming. I pushed Nate to leave on time, and he pushed Chris and Pete. We met at
3:30, on time outside of Columbus. We were looking stress-free, that is until we
hit a stop on I-70, a large accident. Oh boy, here we go. I urged Nate to do the
u-turn over to state route 40. It was slow, but after 45 minutes, we got through
it. We arrived at about 6:45 for the 7:00 show. I called Oak and we hooked up in
front. I went in with Nate to the VIP section. Perfect for taping, until they
would not let us run from there. Charles explained that he already went through
this when he got there. I argued to no avail and we set up just in front of the
board. I saw Lee, Brian, Jeff "HPF2", and a cast of others in the section. Good
hangin' with Ernest T as always.
> >
> > The boys came on just after 7:15 with a Pleas opener that moved smoothly
into Rebirtha. I went up front and saw Tracy, Clay, and Sarah. I hung with Pete
for the sweet Rock. At the time I did not know Jeff was taking our picture. The
opening notes of X-Mas Katie had Pete and I looking at each other hoping for
Dirty Biz. After Neil's Are You Ready for the Country, the boys delivered "The
Heat"! What can I say, Surprise>my first Heroes in a few years>Chilly to end the
set! A 65 minute set that made me feel I made the right move coming to Indy!
> >
> > I felt the need to head down front for the rest of the show. Pete was easy
to talk into joining me. Nate tagged along for the ride. Set 2 picked up right
where set 1 left off. A Wrangler>No Sugar>Chainsaw had us rockin'! The Tie Your
Shoes was money. How often do you see a weak TYS, never. Another slow,
deliberate Blackout. I didn't like it in San Diego, and it still does not do it
for me. Next up, Dirty Biz! Always great to see this NRPS classic! My first one
since the Fillmore last November. The Love Tractor was played somewhat slow. Sam
sat out the encore which was not my favorite pairing of songs. The playing was
solid. Sam continues to energize the crowd with some nice lingering leads. Pack
up the gear, say goodbye, and walk a mile to the truck. Not looking forward to
the long trek back. Actually, I was not ready to nap, so I drove for 2 hours.
After a Frisco Burger and a sippable sundae at Steak and Shake, I sat shotgun as
Pete drove an hour til I got to my Jeep. The next 90 minutes down route 33 east,
were very tiring. The next day was long and dragging.

Kentucky Headhunters Gallipolis, Ohio 8/5/2006

> >
> > Hey Y'All,
> >
> > Well, here I am stuck in Athens, Ohio until I find a General Manager for my
new account. A very nice college town I must say. Last year at this time I was
seeing Panic in Portsmouth. I was hoping to be there this weekend also. Thanks
for letting me listen to Parsons Karen! I enjoyed it. So, I check out the music
scene for a 2 hour radius. I see the Kentucky Headhunters are in a small Ohio
town about 45 minutes away, southeast of here. They were playing a county fair
in Gallipolis. I haven't seen these guys in at least 10 years. I try to talk
Nate into going, he is staying home. I decide to go solo, so I leave work at
about 6:15.
> >
> > An interesting thing happened around 2:45 this afternoon. I left the stadium
to grab a bite, then purchase an all in one fax/copier/printer/scanner at
Staples. It is so %&%#$% hot, I decide to swing by the hotel and jump in the
pool for a quick break. The hotel, the University Inn, is beautiful. I put on my
swim shorts and jump in. I sit on the lounge chair, ane suddenly, I hear some
beautiful classical flute music. Next to the pool is a gazebo, and in front of
that, about 150 chairs all set in neat rows. People all dressed up are gathering
for .......... a wedding. I was talking to Hubie and was tempted to grab my rig,
and stealth the wedding music through the pool fence. He actually encouraged me
as he loves classical music. I ran footage of our bowling expedition at the
Lucky Strike in Louisville the other night, so.....yea, you guessed it. i run up
to my room, and in 5 minutes I am rolling. Very windy. I set up right next to
the fence above the gazebo. Not the greatest of spots to pick up the sound. The
ceremony was only about 15 minutes, and the heat was baking everyone all dressed
up. After they filed toward a reception line, I grabbed my gear and go out the
back of the pool area and set up 10 feet from the 4 women playing the flutes. I
was not dressed for the occasion so I stayed out of the way. When everyone moved
off to the reception, I spoke to the 4 women playing flute. They are called the
"Shimmering Silver Q-Tet". They work at the Ohio University and I introduced
myself. Super nice. I asked them for their setlist and I got the wedding
program. I saw Erica Schwarztrauber marry Christopher Powers. The Felix
Mendelssohn Wedding March from Midsummer Night's Dream was sweet! I know what
y'all are thinkin', this boy needs some counseling!(You're probably right)
> >
> > When you are in Athens, and head 45 minutes southeast, it can only mean one
thing, you are headed close to the United States border, as West Virginia is
just across the river! Scary thought getting out in that part of Ohio. When I
hit the town of Cheshire, I drove within 200 yards of some nuclear towers. That
may explain why the people are what they are. I had put on a Budweiser holy
t-shirt, and a bandana around my head. I wanted to feel part of the crowd, only
I probably had about 11 more teeth than the average demolition fan.I get there
just after 7, as that was my goal. I wanted to see the demolition derby! The
admission was only $7.00 and included rides! Such a deal. It was hilarious as 12
cars are put in a muddy track, lined with large dead trees laying all the way
around the circumfrence as a barrier. The stands all the way around were packed
and I stood and watched. Mad Dog 77, Wagon Slayer was tearing up the
competition. I hadn't seen a demolition derby in at least 35 years. It was
hilarious as I found myself cheering for "Mad Dod as he almost rolled a car!
> >
> > I had to leave as the KHH started at 8:30. They were set up on a large
outdoor stage. The stone/grass lot was filled with locals all lined up in lawn
chairs. I had to find a spot, and a chair. I went into the livestock building
and found a folding metal chair sitting with nobody around at a booth. I grabbed
it and meddled through the crowd. I found a spot I squoze into. The lady next to
me was in a wheelchair and actually moved over 6 inches to accomodate me. I
thanked her. It was 8:25 and I set up. I put up the stand about 2 feet and was
ready to roll.
> >
> > The promoter made a couple of announcements, including video and recording
policy. They used to allow audio years ago. The KHH came on just after 8:30.
After about 3 songs, the husband of the lady next to me gets up and comes back
in about 2 minutes. A minute later, the promoter taps me on the shoulder and
asks me to take it down. He watched as I hit the light button and the lights
went off. It was in stealth mode! He also watched me take the makes down off the
stand and left. I layed them on my bag which was on the ground. The sound could
not have been that great down there. I could not hand hold them as I had a
snitch next to me. I did recognize several tunes from their past repatoire. They
have sold 6 million albums/cds over the years. Greg Martin had some great guitar
leads. Martin and Anthony Kenney, along with their cousins drummer Fred Young
and brother Richard, began playing together eons ago. They played a nice little
medley that started out with Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the
Sky>Crossroads>Jam>Spirit in the Sky that segued into their biggest hit Dumas
Walker. Fred played a long drum solo in which for part of it, he put down his
sticks and used his hands and feet only. The second song of the encore was a
good cover of the Stones Honky Tonk Woman. Doesn't every band know this one? The
Louisiana Coco and Dumas Walker were inevibitly going to be played. I must say
they put on quite a show.
> >
> > After they stopped playing, you could hear the roar coming from the
Demolition Derby. It was still going on 3 hours later, the finals. I raced over
and snuck into the area where the wristbands only folks were. A car caught on
fire and about 10 fire fighters were on it like white on rice in a matter of
seconds. The announcer was calling the play by play as all cars were stopped.
The fuel pump kept doing it's job as the fire re-emerged a couple of times. A
cloud of white engulfed the fairgrounds from the extinguisher's spray. The crowd
was going nuts! They had some of the usually country fair food. Very good pizza
and strombolis, a nice surprise. The kettle corn was also very tasty. The
sausage and onions looked very good as well, but it was time to go and finally,
I headed back to my Jeep.
> >
> > I was talking to Nate as he was giving me the WSP setlist from Portsmouth. I
made a wrong turn and was heading over the river into, WEST VIRGINIA. Oh no! It
took me about 30 minutes to find my way back into the United States. I was never
so happy. Sorry Kate about the WV remarks. I do have some friendes from WV and
they know what I mean. All I can say is, rent the movie "Wrong Road" and you
will get a feel for my comments. I listened to my recording. The first 15:33
sounds so pristine, but after that, only fair. Oh well. For the first time in
eons, I attended a show where I did not no a single soul. That in itself was
different.

Widespread Panic Louisville 8-1-2006

> >
> > Hey Y'All,
> >
> > I am about 10 reviews behind, but figured I had to get this one out quickly.
I missed the Memphis shows for the first time in years but did plan on going to
Louisville. Never miss shows in this grand old venue! I booked a room at the
Holiday Inn Downtown and was able to take advantage of my AARP card! Tim was
driving down from T-Town and would be sharing the room with me. I first heard
George would not be at the show late morning yesterday. As usual, I don't like
to spread rumors, so I keep quiet and figure I will believe it when I see it. I
hit the middle eastern restaurant 2 doors down from the Palace Theatre. A Shish
Twoork with garlic sauce and lots of pickeled turnups would hold me until after
the show. I went into the Palace at about 6:45, more to beat the oppressive
heat! At 7:00, the ushers opened the aisle doors and I made my way towards the
stage. Sure enough, there was Sam's Soldano at the far left of the stage. It was
true, George would not be in the house. It seemed a bit weird.
> >
> > Here is my take on the whole situation: I first met George at the Greek in
'02. I went backstage after each show. The first night, I introduced myself to
George, and right away, I could sense he was a truely genuine person! He was so
friendly and we talked for about 10 minutes. He had some HUGE shoes to fill, to
say the least. He was so humble it floored me. He has not changed one iota the
many times we got to speak over the years. Yes, I do like George. I know that he
has been bashed by many of the fans over the years, but it certainly was
undeserving in my book. He performed a tough job over the past 4 years. He gave
it his all night in, and night out. I will always respect him and wish him well
in whatever he does! I hear he may be opening a restaurant with some partners in
Oxford. I hope it is successful. I am always looking for a nice place to eat!
> >
> > I went into the pit as I had some uncirculated Outformation shows I spun
down for Sam. We chatted for a few and I told him to tear it up tonight. He said
he was ready. My seats were just at the edge of the overhang. I saw a stand
going up in the center a few rows ahead of me, so I went over to it. I figured I
could clamp on. There was Shane and Brent, in the exact spot as the last 2 trips
here! It all looked very familiar and they let me clamp on! Carrington clamped
as well. We sat in the 2 seats behind them, and yes, we stayed the whole night.
Lots of room and very comfortable all night, except for the 125 degreee heat!
Everyone was abuzz about the changeover. What was going to happen, Sam and John
Keane? At 7:46, we found out as Keane was on lead guitar for T. Light. Sam would
not play during the first set. Keane did nail the opening notes to Surprise
Valley. Not nuts about CTS or Crazy. The Fishin' meandered into my favorite
Panic song, DINER. It was over 16 minutes long, but was missing a little
something, Sam. I still enjoyed it and the Heroes that followed, my first of the
tour. This led into Jojo's Blackout. Many people posted he said "Going back to
Oxford, before I lose my mind". Total BS, I recoreded the show and we all
listened to it. The set was a bit choppy and inconsistant. At that point I
decided that John Keane is not the answer for lead guitar. He did rip some nice
leads and has in the past, but his stage prescence will be best suited as a
guest, not a lead. By the end of the set, we sere all soaking wet from the 125
degree inferno that the Palace turned into. We cherished the 33 minute break.
> >
> > Set II would be a much different story. Sam played the rest of the show to
our approval. The Michael Stanley tune, LGTSOTR was a super call. And it was
nailed! I actually called the I'm Not Alone. Chainsaw was a nice treat. The Take
Out>Porch was old school Panic! The best Porch I have heard in years, ovr 12
minutes! Nice having Dave do the Bass/Drums segment, always well received. The
Gimme>Low Rider was strong, as a dynamic jam came out of the Low Rider! Dave
slid us into the Stop/Go. Man was the chemistry working, only they cut Stop/Go a
bit short, to end the set with Makes Sense to Me. Being past 11:00, I was not
surprised by the one song encore, but a great choice to play Can't Find My Way
Home. I enjoyed this set, especially seeing Sam play an entire set, and not just
3-4 of the usual songs. Was this the shape of things to come?

> > Aside from the sauna-like conditions, a great time. Great seats that we kept
all night. Fun hangin' with Carrington, Cheryl, Ashley, Tim, Pete, Mary, Shane &
Christine, Brent, Eddie & Patrick, Drew & Kelly, Melissa & Connie, and the rest
of you freaks! Where was Nate, oh yeah, he blew off the show to see the Crowes.

> > After the show, we all headed to the hotel to party. I wanted to go to my
favorite Louisville restaurant, Ramsi's, but by the time we went to go, it was
almost 1:00 and too late. Late night dinner consisted of Churchill's homeade
Chicken Salad on 9 grain bread. Very tasty alternative. Here is how it went
down:

> > Hey Y'All,
> >
> > We were all pumped after the second set unfolded last night. What was in
store for us this evening? Ernie from Indy made the trip down for the show as
well as Tracy. I spoke to both of them and highly encouraged their prescence.
Nate was coming down after missing last night for the Crowes show. Was up early
and checked work emails and in touch with some of my managers with the usual the
problems. Very hungry and nothing was stopping me from going to Ramsi's for
lunch. Carrington, Tim, Amy, and Christy were going with me. We prepped in the
room and headed out at about noon. They take stock when I steer them to food on
the road. I guaranteed they wood love the food. You can take 20 people to this
place and everyone would still have to make tough choices to decide what to eat.
An awesome menu with some of the most creative food evah! Patrick and Eddie took
me there years ago, and I ALWAYS eat at least 1 meal there each trip to
Louisville. I endorsed the fried salmon sandwich on Focaccia for Carrington, the
Selma's Grouper Sandwich for Tim, the Goat Cheese Focaccia for Christy, the
Salmon Struedel for Amy, and I tried the Chicken Breast on a bed of Angel Hair
Pasta with a Gorgonzola Sauce. All received WOWS! Back to hotel to wait for Nate
and Ernie to come to town. We listened to last night's show and hung.
> >
> > We went over to the Brown to Drew and Kelly's room to visit Ernest T. Bass.
Then on in to the Palace. Tonight I had first row of pit in front of Dave. Same
spot as Chris and I were in for the Fox Theatre telecast. I gave the seats to
Jess and Jason, Louisville's favorite married couple, in exchange for their 2
seats on the aisle of row H. Perfect spot for recording! Drew, Carrington, Nate,
and I were all clamped to 1 stand. Pete, Mary, Tim, Tracy, Nate, Carrington,
Ashley, Cheryl, and I stayed in these seats the entire night. Amazing. Shane &
Christine, and Brent were across the aisle a couple of rows back.
> >
> > The boys hit the stage just before 8 without Keane. I had my fingers crossed
that Sam would be up there the entire night. Keane did play every song after the
opener. An A of D opener>Hatfield. Nice JB rapping including a line in reference
to Pabst Blue Ribbon. Bear's was a nice version. Keane handled the first solo
very nicely. Wait till ya hear what Sam does to the jam coming out of Bear's
though, smoking! I got my Genesis. Then came lots of heat! Cradle into a killer
Maggot. And spoken word Maggot at that. Pete and I did some recolecting and
think the last spoken word was the midwest run in 1997? I was calling for a
Chilly, and had the windscreens on the mics for protection. There it was! A
split version, much to our delight. The jam after mini drums sounded to me like
they could have gone into I'm So Glad. Next in the sandwich was some real
substance, Jack! And then back into Chilly. Great start to this show. Throw out
Give, and it was total money!
> >
> > After a 39 minute break, and 125 degree heat, round II. A Conrad then
Coconut opener was just about perfect as the ravinous crowd went nuts. Then a
Pieces and Thousage. I would have preferred a solid jam instead of stopping
after each of the 4 songs.Todd got to lead us through Down before a stellar
versioon of Rock. I love the part of the show when Dave rocks our world with the
drummers. Tonight it sounded like he was doing a Green-Eyed Lady bass jam. After
this was a trip down memory lane with the trifecta of Do What You
Like>Arlene>Postcard. I must admit, the DWYL was out of kilter. The timing was
weird in the first jam. They got back on track after a while. Last time I saw it
was RR 2002, and then before that in Reno 10/99. What followed was dirty! The
encore was a bit on the mellow side. Sam sat this out as he tended to his other
job by packing things up. I was very pleased by both sets tonight. I hope I can
make the Chicago shows while Sam is still guitar slingin' with these guys. It
all depends on work the next 6 days.

> > Fun hangin' with Carrington, Cheryl, Ashley, Tim, Pete, Mary, Nate, Shane &
Christine, Jason and Jessica, Tiffany, Brent, John, Eddie & Patrick, Drew &
Kelly, Melissa & Connie, and the rest of you freaks! Nice chatting with Patrick
between sets. I will get you out to a show with me in Cleveland one of these
days! The party was not over by any stretch of the imagination. We all headed
over to the Lucky Strike for some midnight bowling. I usually bowl once every 6
years, although I did go in Atlanta about 2 years ago with David. We went
straight from the show with all our gear. A very cool venue with leather
couches, barely lit alleys, disco music, and cute cocktail waitresses. Did I say
venue? Time to get the rig out and cover the audio! I set up FOBB (Front of
Bowling Balls). I plan to listen to it soon to see what everyone was saying.
Should be good for a laugh or three. Carrington and Nate have already asked for
copies! Back to the barracks. Christy came to visit Tim and I. I still had to
pack and get my $&%#$^ together as I had a very early plane to catch to go back
to work. I did get a 90 minute nap before hitting the shuttle with Mary for the
airport.

> > Well it is official, Jimmy Herring will be joining Panic for the fall tour.
Chameleon is a great adjective to describe Jimmy's playing. He can put himself
where he needs to be with any band he plays with. I remember seeing him with ARU
in the early nineties. Great talent. The first time I saw Jazz is Dead at Toad's
with Tracy Frank in 1998, he blew my mind. He never saw the Dead or listened to
them, yet here he was, shredding the lead guitar. I was moved. Saw him a few
more times that fall and early in 1999. Always enjoyed his work with Sipe in the
Apartment Project. A memorable show was Sipe, Fountain, Herring, and Lopes at
Manny's in NYC the fall of 1998. Jason and I were the only tapers. A fun night
out as I took 2 of my concession managers into the Big Apple from West Point. A
great night of music with a huge bar bill. In August 2002, I mail ordered for
the Terrapin Station shows at Alpine. I had a pair halfway back in the pavilion
for the first night, and front row Dead center the second. 39,000 people, and my
mail order was front row. First night we went down to about the 14th row and the
second night, I traded my front row for about the same spot. Three rigs and
about 12 decks in my legitimate seat. I was amazed at what Jimmy pulled off
those 2 nights. He was the glue holding it all together. And his work with Phil
& Friends, amazing. The Quintet is still my favorite version of Phil's different
incarnations. My only negative comment, why not Sam? Tonight, even with a few
mishaps, it was a trip down memory lane! Great selection of songs and very well
played. Whatever Sam does, I shall support his efforts. I have been seeing and
recording Outformation since there beginning in 2002, and can't wait to see some
more! If ya haven't seen Out411 yet, check them out. They don't hit the midwest,
so if you in the windy city for Panic, go to the aftershow!
