Ark Band Toledo 4/28/2006

Ark Band Toledo 4/28/2006
>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> A long day at work! I started at about 8:00 am and worked up at one of our accounts on the lake in Michigan. We were doing construction such as carpentry and painting all day until about 9:30. I brought my gear with me and headed down I 75 to Toledo. Got in at about 9:50. I saw an announcement for the Ark Band a few weeks back. I thought they had stopped playing as I have not seen them in at least 3-4 years. They are a ragae band out of Columbus. As I was setting up, the first person I saw was Errol, their Manager. We exchanged quick pleasantries as I was in a hurry not to miss any music. I recognized Terry their drummer whom I had met when I recorded them several years back. They had a pretty good sized crowd.
>
> They opened up with Ruby Little Thing. They jammed about 10 songs in a row including Kingston Town>Rosie, a very lively number. But once they hit Electric Avenue, everyone were on their feet. Mickey Finn's turned into 1 big dance floor! I believe the last time I saw them, they were a 5 piece band. Tonight, there were seven musicians on stage all night, as Milton Prince sat in on percussion all night. They also did a nice cover of Steve Miller's, The Joker. A very long 93 minute set that closed with Swing Your Engine, and well played.
>
> After a 38 minute break, back to work. They kicked off the set with Down Under. Some nice covers sprinkled in such as The Way You do the Things You Do, and No Woman, No Cry. This set was also big, as it clocked in at over 87 minutes. DJ Smoove added some rap at times, making them seem like rapgae. An 11:35 Follow the Leader closed out the set with a tacked on acapella Redemption Song. All I know is that we got 3 hours worth of solid music for the price of admission. Phil and Nate from Smokestack finally made it over for the end of the 2nd set. If you are in Ohio and Burning Spear or the Wailers are not on tour, check these guys out. You can't go wrong.

Bloodkin Raleigh 4/22/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> Sorry for the delay as work has kept me very busy between shows. After the second night's Widespread Panic show, we were off to the Pour House for the second night in a row. Would it be packed as it was last night for Outformation? I highjacked Melissa from stacey and Tim as she really wanted to see the Kin. With our great positional parking in the VIP lot, we were within the first 20people at the venue. The 300+ pound security guy at the door, remembered us from last night. The boys were up on stage making last minute adjustments. Jack was again at the soundboard as he is the house soundman. I looked at him and he pointed to the cables coming out of the board as if he could read my mind. Jim had to set up his Neumann's so i figured, take the patch and start rolling! They started playing as I was hooking up the board feed. I missed the first couple of minutes. Jim got going and took the digital out of my 722 from the 2nd song on.
>
> I have not seen these guys in at least a year. I have always thought that Danny and Eric wrote several great songs. I was intrigued by the fact they had an extra guitarist. He sounded good right from the start. The Red Trombone Blues was long and smokin'. Melissa and I ran into Mr. Joshua Stack right away. Our next surprise was running into Mark Brut. Our next surprise was running into Jessica and Jason. At the halfway point of the set, the place was packed to the rafters! A great turnout. I liked hearing Quarter Tank and one of my favorites from the boys, End of the Show. I believe the new guitarist is Eric Martinez, I could be wrong. He knew all the songs very adeptly and played many of the leads. After a long 90 minute set, the boys stepped off for a short, 16 minute break. The second set was very short compared to set one. The Rock Gut>Parsons hit the spot. They invited a friend, I think Anna Brodeshare was her name, up to sing harmonies on I Can't See Her Anymore. She had some pipes and added quite a bit. The encore was a cover of the Stones Happy. I did not have Jayne with us so the setlist is incomplete. A nice way to end a three night run of 5 shows! We packed up and headed back to Stacey and Tim's condos. We dropped Melissa off and visited with Chip, Sara, Proseroo (actually he was down for the count), Tim, and Stacey. We plugged into the stereo and gave everyone a taste of the Kin. Jim and I headed to Tim's so we could unwind, pack, and get ready to leave the next morning.
>
> At about 5:00 a.m., I looked at Jim and he read my mind as he fired up the grill in the back. We enjoyed a nice rib dinner complete with beans and cornbread! Always good staying where the leftovers are! As I always say, some people eat to live, but I live to eat!

Widespread Panic Raleigh 4/22/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> Sorry for the delay as I have had 7 long days of hell at work.
>
> Long day it was! I got up after a 3 hour nap at 9:00. Tim and Stacey, who were to host a party at 1:00, were still out cold. With the prospect of a houseful of folks coming to party, eat, and drink, I began cooking. The beans were now in the oven. I put togehter a rib rub out of various findings in Tim's kitchen. I slow cooked them in the oven prior to finishing them on the grill. Tim and Stacey regained consciousness at about 10:30. Jim pitched in and gave me a hand in the kitchen. Tim whipped up some tasty cornbread. By 1:15, the first batch of ribs were done as guests began to arrive. Allegra was one of the arrivals, and I can't thank her enough for helping me in the kitchen, outside on the grill, and cleaning up(yes, there was a mess). After the first batch of ribs, we saw a hellacious storm. Thunder, lightning, hail, rain coming down sideways, etc.! It blew over and cleared up. Turns out we had a nice gathering. Jim, Melissa, and I hit shots of Patrone during cooking. Off to the show.
>
> We met Dave, Karen, Mindy, and Charles in the lot and headed in. Another night with a great seat, thanks to Mike A! We set up shop in about the 12th row. As the boys took the stage and began playing, I heard that familiar drum beat to my favorite, DINER! What more could I have asked for to be graced by Ms. Lee! After a short Thin Air, we heard the new From the Cradle. Not sure as this was our first one. The Wonderin'(with JB layin' down some nasty slide licks) led into a great setcloser, Georgia on a Fast Train. I really like this one, as I said when I heard it at New Years. John Keane joined the boys for the last 4 songs of the set. After a 43 minute break, they opened with Old Neighborhood. I wouldn't say this was my favorite opener, I have heard this song too many times. Whatever happened to New Blue? Pigeons got things jumping before segueing into Good People. This song got a new makeover! At first, I was not 100% sure it was Good People. After 2 1/2 minutes, it sounded like they may be going into a different song. I was also hearing some Ride Me High riffs in there. The jam out of Rebirtha was stellar! leading into what i called, Hatfield. After Drums and Jam, we got a Ribs and Whiskey. I couldn't help but look at Stacey and Tim, our hosts earlier today at the 2nd Annual Ribs and Whiskey Party! They were beaming. We saw the Soldano amp from jump, and knew it was a matter of time before we saw our good friend Sam Holt join in on the fun. He assisted the boys with a sick Machine>Barstools! George was complimenting Sam by playing some mean slide riffs. That was as close as you can get to the old Panic sound! Wow! A long Ride Me High with Keane on steel guitar made it's way into the set ender, Give. I guess I am the only person not in locve with that one. It has changed from a 2 1/2 minute song, into a 5 minute song. An interesting choice of songs for the encore. I totally dug the Don't Be Denied! the tradeoff between Jojo and the B3, and Keane on steel was priceless! Basically a 2 hour 2nd set. The playing was on the mark tonight. Very consistant. Some of the highs were not coming through in the mix tonight. jim and I noticed that during the show.
>
> We had E Scott in the house tonight! I was most impressed by him if you can believe it. He ran a 1/2 marathon in the morning and drove up for the show. I did not see him drink a beer as he is in training for a full marathon in San Diego next month. Equally impressive is the fact he blew off a Better Than Ezra show to see Panic! Is this really the Eric Scott we all know and love? Great hangin' with Martin, Ray and Shelly, Jono, Carrington, and Pepper in our row. Also great to hang with .Charles and Mindy, Jim, Craig and Kucy, Brien, Joe W., Chip, Sara, Nick, Robbie, Bill and Kitty, Heather, Jayson, Causey, Frank, Kristin(unattached), Flynn and Heidi, Melissa, Lara, Tim and Stacey, Prosseroo, Darryl, Barry the Blade, Ashley B., Marcus, Tito, Innis, Dave and Karen, Rob and the Houston crew Great seeing the Mohlmans as well! Nothing beats good friends and good music! So here we are 50% of the spring tour is over. A great 2 nights of Panic! The Fox is gonna rock!!!

Outformation Raleigh 4/21/2006 Late Night

Outformation Raleigh 4/21/2006 Late Night
>
> Hey Y'all,
>
> At the end of the Panic show, we all hurried to break down and make our way to the Pour House to see Sam and the boys. Jim and I were in the VIP parking, and were out in minutes! We arrived at the Pour House, parked in front directly accross the street from the front door, and wandered in. The first person I run into, Brother Lee! We even beat Sam there! Jack, was the house sound guy and hooked me up with a matrix from the board as Jim set up the large diaphram Neumann. I ran the soundcheck as nobody was in the house yet. Always a pleasure to see Eli, as he kicks ass on running the Out411 sound! Go Home Team! When C. Fox and company got there, we all got set up. Before long, the place was filling up. I joined Sam, Bird Dog, Lee, Grady, and others for a quick trip upstairs prior to the show. I was chatting with Sam and we talked about how Warren covered the Lonesome, Ornery, and Mean at the Valentines Day Mule we hung at in Athens a few years back. It was right after Waylon had passed away.
>
> When they took the stage after 12:15, it was a packed house. Most everyone had arrived from the Panic show. Lee Haraway from the Sun Dogs sat in on Pedal Steel for several numbers including the first 2. Bird Dog made it sound like a thunderstorm during Dark Severinson, awesome effects! My favorite still, is of course, the Center Stage. I remember in Macon getting Sam to play a few chords of it at the Panic soundcheck last fall. I love the coupling with Tennessee Before Daylight tonight. I also grooved to the Panic>Marshall Tucker (Burned Faceless>Long Hard Ride)! He made mention of Mikey prior to the start of it. Another one that sounds great is the Midnight Promises. The Stone in my Shoe stretched out to over 12 minutes. Not only was the place packed, it was ENERGIZED! You would never know that everyone had just come from a Panic show. A very nice 2 hour and 10 minute set. After the show, it was over to Stacy and Tim's to listen to the goods on a home stereo. We stayed for about an hour or so, then made our way to Tim's Condo. The next day was Stacey and Tim's 2nd annual Ribs and Whiskey Party. At about 5:30 am, I decided I better start the baked beans as I did not think our hosts had that on their list to do. Odd, but I was not ready to sleep yet, hmmmm.

Widespread Panic Raleigh 4/21/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> After the great Mule show, Jim and I stopped at the Sheraton to get a quick listen to our recording. We said goodnight and headed over to the Ochs Hotel. Listened to our sources on her stereo. Leftover Chinese eaten right out of the fridge coitainly hit the spot. Looked at several photo albums with Melissa and Pepper. Jim and I wandered over to the Fraley Arms our hotel for the night. The Raleigh crew definitely made us very welcome!
>
> Jim had a 2 hour conference call, and I was on the phone with work for about the same. Bojangles variety of biscuits for breakfast. Jim and I headed over for some pulled Pork BBQ near the venue. Everyone found it hard to believe that I have never been to this venue. I guess after all these years I am surprised I haven't been there myself. We all met out in the lot. We had VIP parking and would need it to escape the lot so we could get to the Outformation show on time. Everyone was very excited for the first show of 2006. My ticket was 2nd row of section 2, wow. I moved back to about the 11th row and Charles, Jim, Dave, Joe, Brien, Martin, Carrington, and I set up shop. We saw the pedal steel on stage left, so we knew John Keene would be joining the boys. Talk about coming out of the gate taking no prisoners, Provin'>Chilly>Provin'! Classic old school Panic! Next another favorite, C. Brown. This one was a very, very, low keyed intro. Porch led into one of the night's highlights, Drivin'>TYS>Drivin'! Pinch me, is this still the first set? The Time Waits, halted the killer momentum of the set. It wasn't bad, but after what we got, eh. I believe this was only played once in the past. I had called an ALG set closer. JB picked up the Mando, but, technical problems. They still played the ALG anyway. But to our surprise, they were not done. An uninspired Don't Wanna Lose My Buzz was up next. Maybe it is just my biased opinion as I really do not like this one. They closed out with an almost 12 minute Chainsaw! Now that hit the spot! This and North are my 2 favorite Jerry songs. A well deserved 36 minute break ensued. I enjoyed Keene playing both Guitar and Pedal Steel.
>
> A Second Skin opener to rock us. They missed the boat here, as John Keene should have been up there on his pedal steel to lend an even more sinister sound to this one! The Low Rider featured a very clean sounding George on guitar. He sounded much cleaner this set. Love Tractor found itself nested in a peculiar spot at #3, rockin' as always. I thought they lost momentum with the Tortured Audience. Drums led into a good jam kind of Blue Skyesque with John and George trading leads. There were some weird placements of songs in the second set, as well as song selection period. Dave pounded his bass for the Solid Rock! The set had it's moments, but was a bit choppy. Most everyone complained about the encore. Played well, but questionable selections. Two Jerry Joseph songs tonight. The taping went very smoothly, no problems. Chris had his hands full with the new sound system. It could have been a bit louder, but he will nail it with a little more time mastering the V-Dos. Great hangin' with the Charles and Mindy, Jim, Carrington, Craig and Kucy, Martin, Brien, Joe W., Chip, Sara, Nick, Robbie, Bill and Kitty, Heather, Jayson, Causey, Frank and Kristin, Flynn and Heidi, Ray and Shelley, Pepper, Melissa, Lara, Tim and Stacey, Barry the Blade, Ashley B., Marcus, Tito, Innis, Dave and Karen, Jono, Rob and the Houston crew, and the rest of the freaks! Time to pack up and fly to the Outformation show at the Pour House!

Gov't Mule Raleigh 4/20/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> I was up early as I had a 6:55 am flight through Cincy to Fayetteville, N.C. All travel was smooth and I arrived on time. Charles and Mindy picked me up and we made the hour drive to downtown Raleigh. Jim had already arrived in town and was at the Disco Rodeo, scouting out the venue. He found what appeared to be the sweet spot and met us over at the Sheraton. We headed over to the City Market our noses sniffed out Vic's Ristorante. We settled down and enjoyed a late lunch. I had an awesome Pomodoro Salad. The Mescaline salads at our table were equally as good. My meal was a penne with a spicy Arribiata Sauce. It was very good, and filling. The sweet tea was a bit on the unsweet side. Mindy and Jim opted for the calzones, which were no more than baked Italian bread with cheese and pepperoni. Charles enjoyed the Manicotti. On the way back to the hotel, we found Clyde Cooper's BBQ. Had to stop to get a 1/2 pound of course chopped pork. We walked back to the Sheraton and found Dave waiting for us. He and I devoured the BBQ, which will be visited again by us! Yum. Clyde started the business in 1938, and the recipes are still the same.
>
> We headed over towards the venue to stop at the Ale House to hook up with Melissa, Stacy, and Tim. A quick wetting of the whistle and over to get in line. We went in and set up in the middle of the floor in front of the mirrored support beam. Actually this would give us guarded protection. There is a wooden corall around the middle of the floor, great if you had to get out in an emergency! It was a strange place as they book C&W bands, Latin music, and other music. Ran into Steve Lopez and chatted briefly before the show. After seeing and hearing about the show the night before, where they played a bunch of my personal favorites, I wasn't sure what to expect. Being 4/20, everyone was geeked and ready for the show. By 8:00, the floor was getting packed and very hot. They opened up with Mr. Man just after 8:20, which is 4:20 somewhere in the Pacific Ocean! I thoroughly enjoyed the very bluesy I Can't Quit You Baby. Very nice indeed. I loved hearing the coupling of No Need to Suffer>Painted Silver Light!. The Wine and Blood was also well received and led into an expected Soulshine. Warren played it a bit different with a lot of Wah Wah pedal. Now the place was hot. deliver the goods!
>
> After a 30 minute break, we were ready. And did Mule ever deliver the goods! With Brian Farmer's help, we were led through the crowd favorite Don't Step on the Grass Sam. I see they got some new signs made for the lyrics. It flowed seamlessly into the Leslie West classic, Mississippi Queen. After the raggae portion of the show, we were treated to Eric Burden's Misunderstood. I have personally never seen them cover this and would bet it may have been a first. I saw Warren reading some of the lyrics which is also why I believe it may have been a first. I heard an Eleanor Rigby riff in here, as well as in other parts of the show. At the end as they slowly jammed it out, we could see some commotion on stage right. Sure enough, Jojo appeared. Then Dave appeared wearing shorts. The place was getting crazy. I could hear a Low Spark coming for about a minute. I made my call and sure enough, we GOT it! But, they weren't gonna be outdone just yet. At first we thought we might have a Dear Mr. Fantasy. And then, a very smooth Can't You See! Warren did Toy proud. And of course, it was the big time crowd sing-a-long. A superb set ender! Nothing like a Widespread Mule segment! An almost 15 minute Blindman as the show came to a close. A very big second set! I did not feel denied at all!
>
> It was fun hangin' with Charles, Mindy, Jim, Dave, Robbie, Tim and Stacy, Melissa, Pepper, Ray and Shelley, and the rest of the FOB gang. Nick was in the house taping on the rail so we never got to hang. Slim worked out some crackle before the opening of the show and had it sounding nice. Stacy actually stayed for the entire show!

Smokestack Toledo 4/15/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> After going to Indy for work on Friday, and staying out til "closing" time for the Slippery Noodle, we staggered back to the hotel. After getting packed, we hit TGI Fridays for breakfast, yes breakfast. It is attached to the Courtyard Hotel, so in lieu of the Courtyard having a restaurant, they sub-contract with the expectation that they must do breakfast. A very nice display of fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, potatoes, a self service Belgium Waffle station, and even a display station where they make ommlettes or eggs to order. We tanked up and drove the 4 hour trip back. Back in the middle of the afternoon. Too late for golf. I went to the office for about an hour. Then it hit me, a quick round of disc golg. Over to Ottawa Park, 8 minutes away. I joined a threesome at the first tee. I played all the holes for par 3, even the long ones. I shot a 2 over as I was elated. Over to the office for a bit. I stopped by Tim's for a quick visit. He called me earlier to go to see Johnny, as One Under was playing. They were opening for Particle and at the time, I was not sure if I would be ready in time to get to Detroit. I was now leaning towards seeing Smokestack here in Toledo. I decided to get my gear and head over to the show.
>
> I got over to Mickey Finn's Pub at about 10:10. As I went in, I found out there was an opener, Indagrass. I went in and set up FOB. I ran into Phil and Sahadi, Steady and Jade. They kicked off the set at about 10:10, so I missed the first tune. They are a bluegrass band that I have never seen. They did some good covers such as Little Maggie, Hobo Song, SOTW, and Wild Horses. Definintely an enjoyable 45 minute set. They play as a traditional bluegrass unit, guitar, stand-up bass, mando, fiddle, and banjo. BTW, Happy Birthday Tim, now of legal age! A quick break in the "alley" with Chuck, Steady, Buddy, and a few others, and we were ready for set 1.
>
> The stage crew wasted little time switching out as Smokestack began their first set 17 minutes later. They kicked off with a nice Highway. The Bodhi>Porch>Bodhi sandwich was very jazzy. I could picture James tearing up a grand piano! The Sea Gute stretched out to over 16 minutes. For my second show in a row, I saw the newer song While You Break. A long Miss Piggy closed out the 87 minute set.
>
> After a short break, they kicked off the second set with A Long Time. They played this with a different arrangement. Next was the usual pairing of B-Mac's Groove>Hippo. Chuck led us through this with some nice guitar chops. This flowed into the crowd energizer Jubilee. This one gets everyone up and moving. Of course Steady and Jade are already there! They are non-stop wide open! I enjoyed the Chilibin. My treat was the set closer, a cover of moe's Happy Hour Hero.
>
> Nice hangin' with Buddy at the light board. I got to chew the fat with him as he was telling me about his light rig. If any of you are going to Hookahville the end of May, Buddy will be running the lights. Stop by and say hey to him if you get a chance. You get a nice vibe from these guys. For the third show in a row, I was approached by James after the end of the show. He thanked me for coming out and taping them! Nate and Buddy did the same. It is a very nice feeling to know these guys appreciate us coming out and supporting them! I thought this was a much "jazzier" show than the previous two that I saw in the past month. The crowd was a bit smaller than I expected. Maybe this was due to the holiday weekend. Here is how it went down:

Subdudes Ann Arbor 4/11/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> I flew back from Vegas and got into Detroit early am Monday. I hopped in my Jeep and headed down to Findlay as I had a catering for the Board of Trustees luncheon. After they ate a delicious honey/dijon/garlic pork tenderloin, steamed asparagus, au gratin potatoes, and fresh baked biscuits with strawberries and whipped cream, I zipped up to a catering meeting in Toledo. After that, I stopped into the corporate office for about 2 hours. At about 4:39, I headed out as i had not slept in 2 days. I remembered that the Subdudes were at the Ark, so I called Jeff. He said I would need to hussle as it sold out over a month ago. I suppose not having seen a show in 90 hours, was a good reason to try my luck. I stopped at Whole Foods for some Chipolte Brisket and Eggplant Parmesan. I ate as I drove and found a spot at 7:15. I walked to the Ark, found a ticket in about 1 1/2 minutes near the front of the line. After chewing the fat for about 5 minutes, I cut in line there. I had to as the line was too long to wait. It also assured me of a decent spot to tape from.
>
> I was correct as I ended up in the sixth row. As I put up the mics, a worker asked me about permission to tape. I told her that Jeff had been in contact with the band, etc. She finally left me alone. Two minutes later, in came Jeff and Ruth, along with Brian. They wet up shop about 12 feet to my right. After a couple of Ark announcements, the boys took the stage. The crowd was energized! I just love seeing shows here as the sight lines and sound are always excellent. They played 1 long set. They did mix in some new songs along with some old standards. They came out of the gate with a nice Light in Your Eye. The Social and Pleasure Club, and Mississippi Home are 2 new ones I enjoyed. Another new one Let's Play, had Steve step away from his percussion duties to do some yoyo tricks during the song including walk the dog and around the world. I remember way back when I was able to do that with my good old Duncan! They closed out with a strong Love is a Beautiful Thing. They walked out in the middle of the crowd for the acoustic experience. They were about 6 feet away from me for the first song of the encore. They then went to the other side of the crowd for one. I had to reposition the mics. The last song found the boys on stage. A very fun, and relatively early evening. I even stopped at the NY Pizza Depot, where I got a slice of one of my favorites, stuffed eggplant with Ricotta cheese! It was gone by the time I hit I 94. Great seeing Brian, Jeff and Ruth! Where was Tom T? Here is how it went down:

Bob Dylan Las Vegas 4/7/2006

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> Here we are in sin city! The reason we are here is for the Noah Charles Bar Mitzvah. Friday morning started with the Noah Charles Invitational Golf Tournament. We played at the Legacy. The conditions were about perfect, sunny, 75 degrees, and very little wind. The field agreed to play a skins format. I did not travel with my clubs or shoes by my own choice. I borrowed Steve's ancient clubs. I was actually hitting the ball pretty well for only playing once, about 3 weeks ago on a rain soaked course in Ohio. If I could only putt, I would have scored much better. Well, I ran away from the field, winning 10 skins. Eli did manage to come in second place. Now for the reality, we were the only 2 golfers to enter the tournament! Hell, a win is a win! Being old enough to compete on the Champions tour, I did alright with my sparkling 92!
>
> We stopped at the new Whole Foods in Henderson. What a great store. They have a section called Assistant Chef where they prep and pre-cook items that you can finish at home. The wood fired pizza section was very nice. They have a Mexican station where they make burittos, tacos, quesadillas, and other items to order. They also have a smoker where they do sliced brisket, pulled pork etc. I got some BBQ Brisket and a Shrimp quesadilla. Yum! They also have a small coffee roaster, a smoothie section, and other areas new to me. The sushi and noodle are, as well as the Tapas areas are also killer. Great store, have to get Mark out of Jersey to check it out! After we picked up Leroy, Eli's sis, we headed to the hotel to clean up and prepare for the night's activities. We met Larry and Bob there. I left Mark and Donna their tix at the front desk, as their plane was late out of Oakland. Sorry Geoff and Diana missed their plane.
>
> Off to the Aladdin. We had extras to sell, and it was a brutal scene with security all over the place. Tickets were easy to get as the show was not sold out. Selling was a huge problem, as security was EVERYWHERE, including near where people had to buy tix. I got a final warning that I would get thrown out. I ended up selling 1 ticket for less about half price. Larry dumped the others for about the same. We tried, but not worth getting bounced. Security had no metal detectors, and did not pat anyone down. That made getting the gear in pretty easy by today's standards. I hit the Men's Room and got wired up. Merle Haggard opened at a bit after 8:00. I have not seen him in years. He joined the band after a couple of songs. I must admit, this was my first time in here since the post Dead shows n 1995 for the Radiators and Hot Tuna. The sound was great. I bought the seats the minute they were up on the pre-sale 2 months ago. Front row of the 200 section. I was very happy with them. Merle served up some of his old hits. He played my favorite, Workingman's Blues! He aborted Okie from Nuskogee 25 seconds in, I believe as a joke. He said, I can't do this one. We were all hoping for the Mama Tried. He did not ablidge, so no phone call Melissa.
>
> After a 27 minute intermission, the narative intoduction played and Bob appeared with his boys. This is my first show since Larry Campbell left the band last year. A good band, but not quite as solid as the last linup with Larry, IMO. As I mentioned, the sound was great, and Bob was very clear on his vocals. Very nice to hear. We all looked at the previous 4 shows of setlists. Not much of a variation. Tonight, a different setlist, yeah! Always good to see them mix it up for the variety. The Twiddle Dee rocked. I always love to hear the Memphis Blues Again. I thought I heard Ballad of a Thin Man and said so to Larry before the Love Sick. Two songs later, there it was.Lay Lady Lay hit the spot, and Cat's in the Well rocked the end of the set. The Rolling Stone/Watchtower encore, were staples so far on this tour, and by no means disappointed us. Everyone was on their feet for these 2 nuggets! Off to Bellagio, Caesar's, and other parts! Great hangin' with some great old friends, Eli, Leroy, Mark and Donna, Larry, and Bob!

Buckethead Detroit

>
> Hey Y'All,
>
> I received the text message on Monday afternoon from Nate, that he and Kate were now the proud parents of a 7 pound, 15 ounce, baby boy! I had tonight marked on my calendar to go to the Motor City and see Buckethead. As a celebration for the Fisher family, I had to go! I spoke to Matt and Tom in Detroit, but they were not taking me up, so, I was on my own. My first mistake of the night, was stopping at the Moptor City Casino. I usually stop after a show to try and recoup my ticket expendature for a show. I usually do not fare well at this casino, and tonight was no different. My first hand, I drew a 4 on a 16. The dealer pushes me with a 20, I then lose 6 straight on a $15.00 table. Very ugly. After losing a bit more, I had to leave, pissed off at myself of course. I arrived at the magic Stick, pulled a u-turn on Woodward, and parked directly in front of the front door. Things were looking up! Long line getting in as Freakbass was about to start. I was amazed at how crowded the joint was already! I set up FOB near the rail by the tables. I recorded Freakbass and scoped out the place. I was not only on my own, but something very weird happened. I went to a show in this country, and did not know a single soul! I made quick friends with Kelly and Danny. Lots of Megadeath, Metallica, and Iron Maiden t-shirts in this crowd.
>
> My first Freakbass show, so the titles are probably not right. They did cover a Fame. It was "different". After a 38 minute set, the crew came put and set up for Buckethead. I have no idea why it took 1 hour and 11 minutes. The natives were getting restless.
>
> Finally, Buckethead took the stage to all the fanfare. As I told Kelly, when you walk out of here, you will remember tonight for a long time! If you have never seen him, he comes out in a mask and a KFC bucket on his head. I have heard from Chris C. that he hails from Marietta, Georgia. Hell, he might even be my neighbor for all I know. I loved when the drummer did his Carl from Slingblade immitation! The set lasted about an hour. After a nine minute setbreak, it was back to business. The second set was also about an hour long. The encore lasted about 17 minutes. All this for only $15.00. The guy CAN play guitar. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. As I was the only taper there, I became very popular between sets, during sets, and after the show. I was amazed how many people wanted a copy of the show. I listened to a bit of the recording, and it does sound very good! Tracking this son of a bitch is gonna be hell! I dedicated the recording to Nate Jr.!
>
> Time to get out of this smoky venue. I felt like I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes tonight! I then headed south on I-75. I needed to drive the hour plus and go to bed. I was still burning over the loss at the blackjack table. I could only think of what Cousin Eddie said in Las Vegas Vacation after Clark Griswald got cleaned out, "I haven't seen a beating like that since I put a banana down my pants and they turned the monkey loose"! I found my way over to the MGM for round II. I was taking it in the shorts again! I dropped a quick C note. I started to rally and cashed in $280.00 about an hour and a half later, leaving me down only about $40.00. I felt vindicated. This was my first loss in the last 5-6 Detroit shows I have seen. I am still up so it was not a total loss. Getting in at 5:30 for a 2 1/2 hour nap was a bit rough today though!

Galactic Ann Arbor 4/1/2006 Nate & Kate Parents

>
> Hey Y'All,

LET'S WELCOME THE NEXT SPREADHEAD INTO THE WORLD, WHEN LITTLE WRANGLER WAS BORN!!!!!

NATE AND KATE ARE AT THE HOSPITAL, COULD THIS BE THE DAY?
YES, A BABY BOY AT 12:00 NOON! SEVEN POUNDS AND 15 OUNCES! NATE AND KATE ARE NOW FOB (Front of Baby)!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>
> After getting in around 5:00 am from Cleveland on Friday, the game plan was to get about 3 hours of sleep, work all day, and head up to Ann Arbor for the Galactic show at the Michigan Theatre. I stopped at Whole Foods for a quick feeding and made it to the Theatre about 6:20. I was greeted by Sam, as I walked up to the marquee. He heard Brian had some extras to sell. Brian and Ed showed up in the next few minutes and sure enough, I bought a pair in the 4th row for Tim and I. Today was April 1st, the annual Hash Bash in Ann Arbor. I think this is my 3rd time here in the past 5-6 years. Festivities began at noon. Unfortunately, security on the inside does not celebrate this "holiday" as I watched 4 people get tossed from the venue. As I began to set up, I traded our 2 tickets with a couple in the ninth row. I was now where I wanted to be for recording. Brian, Ed, and Aaron set up in the second row. Sam was a few rows behind me to the right.
>
> I ran for the opener, the Gamble Brothers. I was all alone as the row in front of me was empty. I was surprised as I enjoyed their set. They are from Memphis and a bit funky. They are comprised of keyboards, bass, sax, and drums. They played a couple of their newer tunes. Near the end of their 41 minute set, they invited Jeff from Galactic to play guitar for a nice version of I'm a Ram. At the end of the set, Tom and Christina showed up in the row in front of me. He traded over a couple of seats and clamped on to my stand.
>
> As Galactic took the stage, we were ready to get funked away. I figured they would play 1 long set as when I see shows in this theatre, they usually are over by 11:00. Wrong again, as Galactic took a break after a 57 minute set. Near the end of the set, Art from Galactic sat in for Hot Pants Road. He was joined by Al Gamble on vocals and B3 for the next song, Love Having You. They closed out the set with a killer Garbage Truck.
>
> After a 34 minute break, they took the stage and opened with Moil. Again, near the end of the set, they invited Art back up on sax. Very funky! The encore was dedicated to their city of New Orleans as they blazed through Zeppelin's When the Levee Breaks! I was hoping to hear this one as I saw it on a couple of set lists. John Hardy did his usual great job on sound. Nice seeing Steady and Jade. Can anyone outdance them? Jeff K. showed up so I figured the Ark must have been closed. I was in a hurry to break down and head out the door. I will have to fill in the 2nd set setlist in the next transmission.

> After breaking down after the show, I met Tim out front. I got in the Jeep and headed over to the Blind Pig, as I heard Smokestack was headlining. I found this out at the Galactic show. I found a parking spot, walked 2 blocks, and headed inside. I set up as quickly as possible as they were about to start. I had 2 minutes to spare as they took the stage. So, in 30 minutes from the last note of Galactic, I was recording at the Pig. I met Dave who was also set up just in front of the board. He has archived many of their shows and helped produce one of their cds. I ran into Sahadi, who I met at the Smokestack show a couple of weeks back. Steady and Jade, along with many others, made the scene after the Galactic show. The place was about 2/3 full. The Pig is always hot and smoky, and tonight was no exception. Started at about midnight, we expected one 2 hour set and that is what we got. The opening pair of Already Know>Dreams worked very well. I saw my first cover of the Ballad of John and Yoko. We saw a new one, While You Break. I enjoyed the Steely Dan cover of Green Earrings. Near the completion of End of the Beginning as it mellowed out, I told Buddy, their lightman, that this would be a perfect spot for Low Spark. He looked at me funny and said, how did you know? He then showed me the setlist and there it was. He said they do not do this one often. That closed the set. As I was breaking down, James the keyboard player came over and thanked me for taping the show. We talked for a few minutes as he remembered seeing me in the middle of the floor taping by myself a couple of weeks back. He is a Panic fan. They cover Tall Boy at some of their shows. With the time change, it was almost 3:30 as I headed over to the NY Pizza Depot. The line was at least 20 people, so, it was back down I-23 to Ohio. I spoke to several wasted folks in Richmond at the Team Richmond Backyard BBQ. It made interesting driving conversation to say the least! Here is how it went down:
